Dehydrator Vegetable Recipes

Just eating dried vegetables plain can get a bit boring. There are some more glamorous ways of drying vegetables so you can enjoy them as a real treat.

 

 

A quite glamorous paste for chips to make is Chivy Cheese Chips.  Cottage cheese is blended in a food processor with a ripe tomato, an onion, and cayenne and garlic powder. The mixture is then placed in a dehydrator and sliced into sections.

 

 

Nacho Kale chips are very easy to make and are very high in B-12 and minerals. Blend together cashews, lemon juice, brewer’s yeast, salt, cumin, chili powder and garlic powder.  The Kale leaves are torn into pieces and then dehydrated to make chips.

 

 

You can also make your own version of  Sour Cream & Onion potato chips  by slicing potatoes and coating them in chopped onion, yogurt and salt.  Dehydrate and then eat like you would regualar chips.  You can also use sour cream or even buttermilk but the Yogurt is slightly healthier for you.

 

 

Tomato, Basil and Flax crackers re also very nourishing. This is one cup sunflower seeds mixed with 1.2 up sun-dried tomato, flax seeds, basil, moist fresh tomato, celery, dates, jalapeno peppers, olive oil and salt. The ingredients are blended together

 

 

One recipe that is indispenable for survivalist is the simple one for Cream of Tomato Soup mix in a Jar.   Dry tomatoes in a dehydrator and then grind them into a powder in a blender. Add powdered mil a bit of suet and salt and ground cinnamon. To make the soup in a shelter you only need to add boiling water and bit of butter or margarine to make a very tasty soup.

 

 

You can also make a delicious powdered mix for potato soup in the same way. You dehydrate the potatoes and then pulse all of that together with dried tomato’s, carrots, green beans, bell peers, mushrooms, onion basil, oregano, garlic, mustard, celery powder, parmesan cheese and instant milk powder.

 

 

Another option is to make dehydratd root and ham soup.  You can dry any type of root vegetable such as parsnips, turnips and carrots and then combined with dried green beans, onions, brussels sprouts, carrots, bell peppers, celerity powder garlic, Worcestershire sauce and celery seeds.

 

 

Flavorful food can make a real difference while you are in a survivalist situation so it is nice to stock up on different varieties of food to keep things interesting.  It is simply good for morale.

 

Meat Jerky Recipes for a Dehydrator

Once meat goes into a dehydrator it is usually referred to as a jerky. You can make jerkies out of all kinds of things including steaks, roasts and breasts. You can make beef, pork or chicken jerkies.  ‘

 

 

One of the most flavorful and easy recipes to make is Hamburger Beef Jerky. Hamburger, salt, garlic powder, pepper flakes, pepper, brown sugar, Worcester, liquid smoke and ketchup are all mixed up together and then pressed into strips.  The strips are laid out in the dehydrator and the meat dried according to your dehydrator manufacturer instructions.

 

 

You can make all kinds of variations of hamburger jerky.  You can coat the hamburger jerky strips with Teriyaki, bottled bbq sauce, teriyaki sauce, jerk sauce, worcestire sauce or any other type of meat flavoring.

 

 

There are many recipes for beef jerky out there but the most traditional one is made from beef strips. These are annointed with Montreal Steak Spice, chili powder, brown sugar, garlic, Worcestershire sauce, soya sauce and red hot sauce.

 

 

You can also make steak jerky.  Sirloin tip steaks that are thinly cut and dredged in brown sugar, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, salt and soy sauce are an excellent and tasty source of protein on the road.

 

 

Another interesting variation that adults will especially love is Burgundy Jerky.  Steak or lean meant is sliced into thin strips and soaked in Burgundy wine, soy sauce, garlic, and molasses and ground black pepper for twelve hours. It is then dried in an electric dehydrator for hours.

 

 

You can also make jerky Southwest style by combining salt, black pepper, cayenne, chili powder, cumin and garlic powder.  Fajita style steaks or cuts of meat make the best kind of jerky meat for this.

 

 

You can also try making a traditional gourmet Hawaiian style of jerky from strips of flank steaks. This is called  Pipi Kaula.  You marinate the meat in soy sauce, sea salt, sugar, garlic ginger and chili peppers overnight and then put it into the dehydrator.

 

 

Turkey Jerky is also a great idea.  Simply combine liquid smoke, soy sauce, Tabasco sauce, Worcestershire sauce, hickory liquid smoke and onion salt.  Dip strips of turkey in this and then put in a casserole dish.

 

 

All kinds of jerky are satisfying to the taste buds and light enough to pack into a backpack. Jerky can be invaluable an s a food that is ideal to take along on long walks as it provides a great deal of protein and energy.
